Description
With 150,000 inhabitants, Enschede is a major regional player. For years now, this university city has been working hard and with a great deal of energy on the creation of a new city centre. Thanks to the development of 40,000 m2 of new retail space, a parking garage for 1,700 cars and a major parking facility for 1,000 bikes, the Van Heekplein square has become the urban meeting place in the province of Twente. In the centre of this square, Foruminvest developed the De Klanderij covered shopping centre, with 20,400 m² of retail space and 39 rental apartments, in cooperation with the Dutch arm of international real estate investor Prowinko.
Across from the De Klanderij, Foruminvest also realised the Twentec project, with another 8,900 m² of retail space, largely taken up by large-scale stores. This has created a comfortable and atmospheric shopping and walking circuit that forms the heart of the city centre. The project is an excellent example of good cooperation between local authorities, the business community, a university and investment firms.
